懺悔篇~~真心懺悔痛徹往昔之罪與錯(一)
Chapter of Repentance: Sincerely Repent to Correct and Eliminate All the Previous Sins and Errors (I)

在以前有一個懺悔文,是禪師們對修道者,留下最美好的一個詩偈,也是最了透懺悔真義的詩偈,這個句子提供大家做參考:「我昔所造諸惡業,皆由無始貪嗔痴,從身語意之所生,一切我皆盡懺悔。」
Zen masters used to inform Tao cultivators of one proverb regarding repentance, which not only is the most marvelous idiom but also represents the most profound significance of repentance. The sentence is read as: “The evil karmas I have conducted previously originate from my greed, anger, and addiction, which stem from my body, words, and thoughts. I shall repent them all.”
這句子,就是告訴我們雖然是悟道的禪師,仍是自己要反省;真正開悟了,明白了道,就要真懺悔,真要明白道,就是要真懺悔。
This sentence is telling us that despite being enlightened Zen masters, they still repent and reflect on themselves constantly. If we want to understand the truth of Tao, we need to truly repent.
「我昔」無始以來所造的一切惡業,這個「我昔」的這個昔,就是今天以前都叫做「昔」。過去,這個過去,這一世是過去,前一世也是,過去一百世以前,也是過去。總而言之,就是從有我這個靈性、這個法身以來所造的一切惡業。
“The evil karmas I have conducted previously.” The word “previously” refers to the past status before today. The past time includes the current life and all the former lives. The sins of the physical body have accumulated since the origin of the spirit.
「惡業」就是我們常講的十惡業,是源自於無始以來。而可以用「貪、嗔、癡」三個字來概括,也叫做三毒。
Evil karmas are commonly known as the “ten evil karmas,” which originated from the very beginning of the universe. They can also be concluded as “greed, anger, and addiction,” which are known as the “three poisons.”
貪、嗔、痴,就是無明。而無明,並不是只有這一世才無明,而是自有前世以來,甚至是更早以前的大前世,還有前前世,還有最先世來一直累積到現在。所以這個就是從有生以來一直累積、累積到現在,都因為無始以來的貪、嗔、痴。
Greed, anger, and addiction refer to ignorance. Ignorance exists not only in the present life, but has been inherited from the life before and even can be traced back to the very beginning of spiritual being. The three poisons have been accumulated since the origin of your spiritual being.
那貪、嗔、癡又從哪來的呢?懺悔文裡就告訴我們:「從身語意之所生」。就是從身-身體;語-講話;意-意念上而來的。唉呀!越想越可怕啊!
How are greed, anger, and addiction generated? This can be observed from the repentance poem: “stem from my body, words, and thoughts.” From the physical body, the word we speak, and the thoughts in our mind, the three poisons emerge. Alas, how terrible it is!
所以禪師們對這個就感覺到,好吧!一切我皆盡懺悔。盡懺悔,就是告訴我們,我所知道,我所感受到的,都要懺悔啊!懺悔啊!真正懺悔啊!而懺悔就是要從身、語、意這三個方向來懺悔。
That is how Zen masters feel about it. I shall repent them all. “To repent them all” is telling us that we shall repent what we have known and what we feel. Repent, from the bottom of our soul, from the aspects regarding the body, words, and thoughts.
身-就是殺、盜、淫這三個。
The body involves killing, stealing, and lustful behavior.
語-就是惡口、兩舌、綺語、妄語這四個。
The words comprise cursing, two tongues, buttering up, and bragging.
意-就是一動念、一起心。一動念,意裡邊就有貪、嗔、痴這三個東西了,因為從意而生貪嗔痴。而身體呢?就有殺、盜、淫,也是從意上發出來的,口舌上就容易生出惡口、兩舌、綺語、妄語來。
The thoughts are ideas and notions. Once an idea occurs, greed, anger, and addiction come along with the thoughts. The killing, stealing and lustful behavior of the body also evolve from the thoughts, easily resulting in the words including cursing, two tongues, buttering up, and bragging.
我們常想什麼是兩舌啊?就好比我們村莊裡,有一個有兩個舌頭的人,但我們人總是一個舌頭啊!為什麼他有兩個舌頭?因為他喜歡到這邊這麼講,到那邊那麼講。所以他的舌頭就會轉來轉去,這樣就是兩舌了。
We may often wonder what does “two tongues” mean? For example, in the village, there is a man with two tongues. The reason he has two tongues is due to his gossiping, saying something to someone and distorting it to another. His tongue turns around and eventually becomes two-tongue.
也有人把兩舌比喻成『兩蛇』,毒蛇兩尾,兩隻毒蛇!因為我們的舌頭不照顧好,就經常造成很多毒辣的事件,造了多少的禍害,而傷害了多少人,更損了自己許多的德行。
It’s said that the two-tongue is compared to two serpents. If we do not mind our tongue, the words we spit are as vicious and venomous as serpents. Numerous disasters have been caused and many people have been hurt by the malignant words, which even impair our own virtue.
損德-這個口德,損德也都是這兩個舌頭不聽使喚而造成的,像很多人都喜歡到處去串門子,從這串到那,從那串到這的,感覺上都很高興,天天串門,天天說話,但要注意喔!越說是非就越多,越說就傷害越多。
Our virtue is damaged by the uncontrolled two tongues. Many people enjoy tattling from door to door. They tattle all around, feeling pleased by those words. Nevertheless, beware of such a condition! The more we speak, the more stories are made up, and the greater the damage it creates.
多說就造成傷害越重,是非越多,這些都是因為兩舌所引起的,所以像這樣子的一個言語,隨便了,就容易產生錯誤,隨便說致使夫妻反目、家庭失和、朋友互相對立、鄰里互相敵對,可能都因為由我們這麼一句話。
This is the consequence of being two-tongue. A word being uttered carelessly can easily cause mistakes. One word can lead to the antagonism between couples, families, friends, and neighbors. Such a severe consequence may be resulted by only one word.
所以過去聖人對說話非常重視,不能不謹慎。一個行為,一個說話,都著重小節。所以「庸德之行,庸言之謹,有所不足,不敢不勉也」,更不能忘了「禍從口出,病從口入」這個道理,修道的人一定都要明白這個道理,才不會損害了自己的德行喔!
Therefore, the past saints are conscious of their speech and behavior. Every single movement and word must be dealt with the most carefulness. Confucius said, “Behave and speak with virtue and caution in our daily life. We must encourage ourselves to keep improving on our insufficiency.” We should bear in mind the motto that “Misfortune comes from the mouth, while the illness enters the mouth.” All Tao cultivators must understand this principle to preserve our virtues and morals.
